How it works
You describe a unit of work (a Worker class) and the conditions for running it, such as only on Wi-Fi, only while charging, or with retries and back-off if it fails. WorkManager stores the request in its own database and hands it to the system scheduler, so it survives app restarts and reboots. Jobs can be one-off or periodic (every 15 minutes at the shortest), chained together, and tagged for tracking.
It is for deferrable work that must get done, not for exact timing: an alarm at 7:00 needs AlarmManager, and a long task the user is watching, such as music playback, needs a foreground service. Android limits background activity to save battery, and some manufacturers restrict it further, so WorkManager is Google's recommended way to get guaranteed work done.
